Minor in COMM
Students wishing to Minor in Communication Studies (COMM) must have the following:
- GPA of no less than 2.5 prior to declaring the Minor.
- Complete the Declaration of Minor form and receive a written approval prior to taking the appropriate courses.
- Complete the 18 credit hours of designated courses in the Department.
The required 18 hours shall be completed as follows:
9 credit hours from the following courses:
- MJFC 101 Intro to Mass Comm. OR SLMC 202 Intro to Comm. Theory: 3 credits
- SCOM 120 Digital Media Literacy: 3 credits
- SCOM 130 Ethical Issues in Communications: 3 credits
9 credit hours selected from the following focus areas:
Focus area: Legal Communication (9 credit hours)
- SLMC 231 Mock Trial: 3 credits
- SLMC 331 Communications Law: 3 credits
- SLMC 332 Intro to Legal Research: 3 credits
Focus area: Management Communication (9 credit hours)
- SLMC 250 Intro to Leadership & Management Communication: 3 credits
- SLMC 301 lntercultural/lnternational Communication: 3 credits
- SLMC 352 Intro to Organizational Communication: 3 credits
Focus area: Strategic Communication (9-10 credit hours)
- SLMC 102 Fund. of Advert. & Story Telling OR SLMC 103 Fund. of Pub. Relations: 1 credit
- SLMC 203 Principles of Persuasion: 3 credits
- SLMC 210 Intro to Strategic Communications: 3 credits
- SLMC 351 Advanced Public Speaking: 3 credits
