

Christine McWhorter, Ph.D.
Dr. Christine McWhorter is an award-winning professor and scholar. As an Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism at Howard University, her courses include Multicultural Media History, Public Affairs Reporting, and Introduction to Media Production. Through her inspirational instructional style, she emphasizes the importance of storytelling through students’ unique perspective in terms of culture, life experiences, and goals in order for them to create meaningful work. Prior to coming to Howard, she was an Assistant Professor at Norfolk State University where she taught television production courses including Studio Production, Field Production and TV Directing on a graduate and undergraduate level.
For nearly a decade, Dr. McWhorter was a national television producer. She traveled the country and interviewed people about significant inspirational events in their lives. Her favorite interviews include Christina Hopper, the first Black female fighter pilot to fly in a war, Dr. Bennett Omalu, the real-life doctor behind the movie Concussion, Gospel singer Cece Winans, and Grammy-Award-Winning Saxophone player Kirk Whalum.
Research Interests
Dr. McWhorter holds a Ph.D. in Communications from Regent University with a focus on media and social influence. Her scholarly publications focus on media literacy and media effects. She believes media literacy is a vital skill for both K-12 students and adults. She plans to use her research to develop a curriculum that helps young adults critically analyze news media.
