The Media and Film concentration is an interdisciplinary, student-oriented department with a vision for teaching audio and visual media production from a global perspective. Our pedagogy integrates academic and creative approaches to scholarship. This integration allows us to use both classroom and community as venues of teaching. Our aim is to empower and equip students with the skills and tools necessary to become agents of social, political, economic, and cultural change.
- To provide a scholarly, humanistic and professional education that prepares students to become socially and culturally sensitive, highly skilled communicators.
- To create and disseminate knowledge in the form of traditional academic scholarship and scholarly creativity, including visual and audio media productions.
- To produce innovative, socially conscious media producers, critics, researchers, entrepreneurs, scholars, managers and policy-makers.
- To promote and enhance the well-being of youth, African-Americans and people of color through service learning and research.
