Dr. Yong Jin Park is a professor in the Communication, Culture and Media Studies Department. He teaches Research Methods, Communication Policy, Emerging New Communication Technologies, and Race, Gender, Media. He is also a member of Howard Media Group, a social science research group with the goal of expanding access to the (new) media among under-served communities. Dr. Park received his PhD from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and his MA from University of Southern California.
Research Interests
Dr. Park investigates how social, commercial, and political institutions interface with new technology and shape properties of technological affordance. He focuses on how users, at individual, social and cultural levels, help to shape communication media. This line of interest is with specific respect to Federal Communication Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) policy related to social problems. Dr. Park received the James Carey-ICA Urban Communication Grant, from International Communication Association. He has also received more than eight Top Paper Awards, including the Kappa Tau Award, and the Jung-Sook Lee Top Paper Award, AEJMC.
