Howard Debate Wins 2018 National HBCU Championship in Parliamentary Debate
On January 27, the Howard University Debate Team claimed victory in Parliamentary Debate at the 2018 National HBCU Speech and Debate Championship Tournament. With more than 20 HBCUs participating, the inaugural tournament was held at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
Under the leadership of Professor Angela Minor, many students took home individual honors in addition to the team’s triumph. Congrats to Michael Franklin, Angelina Peters, Kristen Love, Lundyn Davis, Tommy Crockett and Colin Evans for bringing home individual awards.
The National HBCU Speech and Debate Championship Tournament seeks to spread speech and debate education and competition to HBCUs all over the country. The skills that are learned in speech and debate are valuable tools for students in the classroom and beyond the walls of their alma mater. For this reason, this newly formed organization will seek to promote forensics education in all HBCUs.
