Vicci Saunders is an Associate Professor in the Media, Film, and Journalism Department, School of Communications at Howard University where she teaches “Scriptwriting” and “Advanced Scriptwriting”. She also serves as Director of HUR Voices Sirius XM Channel 141 and WHUR-World 96.3 HD2. In 2003, she founded Glasshouseradio.com, an all talk Internet radio channel for Howard University students. She is a co-founder of the National Association of Broadcasters Media Sales Institute at Howard University, and served as its Director for six years.
She received her MFA from the University of Southern California in Professional Writing for Performance Media. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ms. Saunders worked in children’s entertainment as senior producer for “Storyporch” at Black Entertainment Television in Washington, D.C., and with Fosstone Productions as senior producer for “The Kid Club” with Renaldo Nehemiah in Herndon, Virginia.
WHUR-WORLD 96.3 HD2 has received two National Association of Broadcaster Awards for excellence in HD programming. Her research focuses on the critical analysis of the various elements and techniques of effective storytelling for visual media. She is author of the article “Dorothy and the Boyz” which was published in the “Journal of Black Studies”, Temple University and compares the similarities between “The Wizard of OZ and “Boyz In the Hood”. A State Department grant awarded to Howard University’s School of Communications allowed Ms. Saunders teach in South Africa for 6 weeks at the Rand Afrikaans University.
Ms. Saunders is a native Washingtonian and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
