Applied Communications
The program in Speech and Applied Communication encourages the study of communication theory and the impact of human communication dynamics across a broad range of spectrums and a variety of situations. Students are taught the personal, cultural, social and organizational dynamics that affect and are affected by message shaping, perception, influence, persuasion and listening at the intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, public, mass and organizational levels. Students are prepared to assume management and leadership roles in a variety of agencies and organizations that are people and service driven, as well as in the public service and political arenas. Additionally, Speech and Applied Communication majors often use their acquired skills and interests in the pursuit of graduate studies leading to professions in the public or private sectors, public speaking, business, organizational and human resource management, research and the professoriate.
